Establishing
Partnerships
Another
goal of our effort is to build the connection between all
levels of business, higher education, and local government
to enhance the technical capacity and partnerships within
local communities. Strengthening Ohio's communities through
access to information technology resources and the new economy
will enhance the viability of the businesses and individuals
in those communities. This includes promoting new technology
training and jobs by strengthening the collaboration and partnerships
between business, industry, and the educational system.
Local
telecommunications business owners (Internet Service Providers,
E-consultants, etc.), chamber of commerce representatives,
economic development officials, small business development
representatives, and local government officials are encouraged
to help Ohio's readiness for the "digital economy." Efforts
are underway to begin developing programs that provide additional
resources, training, and support for small businesses. In
addition, we will help build partnerships and promote volunteerism
in the area of E-business. The following are some community-learning
activities that we advocate:
- Training for local government and
agency leaders on analyzing the potential for electronic
business in their community
- Public access sites where trained
volunteers demonstrate electronic business technologies
- Development of an E-business mentor
programs that provides planning and technical experts to
businesses investigating E-business
- Provide community based resources
and Web sites to foster Internet marketing and advertising,
economic development, and promote tourism to benefit local
businesses
- Open forums to build awareness of
e-business potentials and pitfalls
- Development of school-to-work programs
that match students with technical ability to businesses
interested in starting commerce activities
